babies can be scientists in that they are always experimenting -- it's the method by which they learn all things. They touch things, taste things, experiment with learning to crawl, sit up, stand, try out their voice at different levels of decibels...basically almost anything a baby does is an experiment of sorts. This form of learning leads to what is called empirical knowledge -- that is learning by doing.
In the same ways, students learn by doing. Perhaps through a hands-on experiment in a science class, or by a personal experience, students also gain this empirical knowledge.

A baby? are you nuts! A student can become a scientist by taking all the required classes and graduating from a university.

scientists test things out and are curious of what does what. kinda like a child, they test their parents patience and figure out the results when something gets changed a little bit. Scientist always have to have an answer.

If you are speaking in general, science basically just means knowledge. babies spend a good part of the day exploring and learning about the environment by experimentation. They do not use the scientific method,, for if they did, I'd be pretty scared.
Students explore the world through research.
Research and experimentation, two basics of scientific study.

we are all scientists, using the scientific method constantly.
example:
question: is CSI on tv?
hypothesis: CSI is on.
collect data: turn on tv and see what is on.
analyze data: CSI, Grey's Anatomy, and Law and Order are on.
conclude: CSI is on.
