I heard on the NFL network at lunch today it was originally going to be the Broncos that opened the season tonight against the Steelers but they whined and the league assigned the game to Miami.

Apparently true since it has been reported that way on several outlets. The NFL likes to open the season with a championship rematch. Also "whining" would be a correct characterization since the given Broncos reason was only that their last preseason game was a road game.

Yes, that is absolutely correct.

"Whining" is not exactly fair. They already have a game scheduled on Thanksgiving with KC, and did not want two special engagements.

A couple of years ago they tried to give Denver a trip to Japan on back-to-back years. Denver has a good market draw.

It doesn't suprise me that the Broncos would not want to play the game - however a team like Miami that hasn't have a big coverage ball game in a while I am sure would love to have the attetion this game would give them.

Well that's possiable as the two teams are playing in Pittsburgh this year, but I really don't know. If it was on the NFL Network I'd guess it was true.
