How else would they remember which buses they had seen?

Many years ago when I was much younger I went on holiday with two friends, one was a bus spotter, whilst I was the only one who could drive.
For the entire week the driving was interrupted with screams of 'Stop, stop'. At first this brought panic and alarm and an emergency stop, he would jump out stand in the middle of the road facing the oncoming traffic whilst a speeding bus slowed rapidly. My friend would take a photo' and then saunter back to us and get into the passenger seat and calmly say 'that was a good one, we can go now'.
It doesn't answer you question but I ought to be having nightmares about that holiday.

Making a note of the bus/train/plane/bird is the whole idea of spotting isn't it? If you are going to spend time waiting for the things to come along, an anorak seems to be a sensible item of clothing.

It's not my activity of choice but what's the problem you have with people who pursue a hobby that you don't?

Similar but I like aircraft but once new a guy who travelled all over the country taking photos of the same type of aircraft just because it had a different serial number,I think it must be something like compulsive disorder or he was so bored at home.

Its a bit like sexual bragging. Guys getting girls numbers.?
"see that no.14 to calppam common, iv'e had her".
"that 46 to Golders green is a good ride"
"that 38 just went passed...clipped my ticket"

And so on.... Its sexual bragging for omniphiles? (omnibus?) ..( bus fanciers), and the numbers are important as "proof", for other bus boners.

If your feeling really kinky.."fancy a double decker?"

I'd rather just press myself against women's bottoms in bus que's.

It's a hobby, just like people who collect china dolls or do knitting.
