When caterpillars are fully grown, they stop eating, then they pupate & slowly morph into moths or butterflies. What they eat depends on the species, available food, etc.

One morning I went out to discover a great, fat caterpillar on my parsley plant. Nothing left but the stalks! So that's something they like to eat.

Once a caterpiller is full grown it stops eating and gets ready to turn into a moth or butterfly. Most caterpillers eat leaves and most moths and butterflies eat nector.

Some caterpillers (ex: pipevine) eat specific plants and will die if you feed them something else. You need to identify your little captive to know what to feed it. Better yet, put it back where you got it- it'll have a better chance of survival.
