So sorry to hear about your bunny!! You tried as hard as you could though and most abandoned baby bunnies don't survive so you tried your best and it is not your fault.

Baby rabbits are very hard to raise. They can be fine one feeding and dead by the next. I've been stuck with several where my mom breeds and sometimes the mom just don't know what to do, or she simply rejects the whole liter, or even dies. I've had one who just about 3 days shy of being 4 weeks old (i'd had him from day one, along with his siblings, and he was white with blue eyes, so you know he was my favorite baby), and I was hardly giving them any milk as I was weaning them onto pellets, and I set him down in the floor to play while I went to the r.r. and when i returned he was just laying there, dead. The vet said that this kind of thing happens, but he was a happy healthy, spoiled brat, and shouldn't had died. but my point is, bunnies are unpredictable, and wild bunnies are more so.

I didn't see the earlier question, so I'm not certain on the exact details of the bunny you were trying to rescue, but I have tried to rescue several and have not been successful in getting them to survive for more than a week. The most important issue, more than feeding, is that a mother rabbit licks her young to help them maintain body temperature. You can tell if this is the problem if the baby bunny began to feel very cold to the touch even before death. =( It's really hard, but I'd try again in a heartbeat to rescue a stranded bunny if I found another baby.

Like of the people here I am very sorry to hear the bad news. I do love animals. Now listen to this, my cat is 13 years old that would be 70 years in human age. She was bitten by some critter that left a big plug in her side. It was awful and she limp and cried as she was in pain it had gotten infected. I took her to vet and she ended up having meager surgery. I was so afraid that she was going to die, I ask all and everyone I knew to say a prayer for her. And I am happen to say that she is fine. It was a close call. So I do boohoo with you and this one.

don't feel bad there was probably ....no there was definitely nothing you could have done if it passed on after you already contacted a veterinarian....kitten replacement milk is usually the only kind of milk they make that is sold OTC, I'm sorry your bunny died it's hard when you invest time no matter how brief. Just remember at least it left this world warm and nourished not cold and starved.....

Alot of vets are really unfamiliar with rabbits, and can accidentally cause them harm. For future reference, the house rabbit society in your area should have a list of rabbit savvy vets..

I'm so sorry for your loss

one thing to remember is that a lot of orphaned baby animals will die, no matter how hard you try or how much experience you have or how perfectly you do everything. I'm sorry he died, but you gotta be ready for that to happen if you try to raise an orphaned animal.

Sorry to hear that but what is your question? I've had lots of rabbits die but only one that I took to the vet but he still died.

Sorry to hear that. Maybe it had some other medical condition
that you or anyone is not aware of. I would suggest an autopsy, but it probably would not matter anyway. Get well soon.
