Street theatre is extraordinarily difficult to do well -- a performer who isn't sensitive to his audience rapidly becomes obnoxious or invasive. (Hence street mimes having such a horrifically bad reputation.)

I've worked with some great street performers, and I assure you that they're not only skilled at their craft, but some of the best *performers* I've ever seen, period. Those proficient at it are incredibly masterful.

I've seen amazing improv, mime shows, juggling, etc in London, New York and elsewhere. Good street theater does exist! You just gotta look for it.
