I'm trying to buy a new card for a computer I'm putting together.

Essentially, the 7900 GTX is way more powerful and can perform more calculations per second than the GS version. Thus the GTX can boast more performance.

GTX has 512 mb of memory vs 256
GTX 's memory bandwisth is 51.2 GB/sec vs 42.2
GTX Vertices/Second 1.4 Billion vs.822.5 Million
GTX Pixels per clock (peak) 24 vs.20

Performance wise, the 7900GTX is higher then the GS due to several technical specifications that I don't really want to waste space listing if you're not interested in reading them or know what they mean. I have however given you the website with this information if you are interested.
