My glands are swollen in my neck and I have a slight sore throat. I don't have health insurance and don't want to pay the high price of going to the doctor out of pocket. Is this something I should really be worried about or will it clear on its own. My glands are swollen and tender to the touch, but I can breath just fine and still swollow.

Your glands are doing their job!!! Your body most likely has an infection of some sort but the good news is, you've probably had it before. Your glands hold blueprints of what worked in killing off the 'sickness' in the past. So now it has identified the intruder and is making a bunch of cells to go fight the infection that's why its swollen and why you feel a little sick.

All you can do is wait it out and see if your immune system is going to win the battle. If not seek out a low-cost clinic as you will probably need antibiotics to help in the fight. So long as its not a virus that is.

No one here is a doctor, all we can do is offer suggestions. Use common sense and listen to your body. The above is from personal experience and study and by no means a diagnosis.

Hope you feel better.

It is always safer to see the doctor....but also expensive.

What you do depends on how well you know your body. So let's say it would be me (I know my body very well) here is what I would do:
- I for myself would wait a couple of days and see how it develops.
- swollen glands - you probably mean rather the lymph nodes outside instead the ones inside the throat?
- On the first glance I would say you could be a simple cold. In worst case it can hgowever be a step throat or be mumps.

- so again - only if it would be me: when I get throat symptoms I gargle either with the Yellow Lysterine, intense and a number of times per day. The really good ingredient in there is thymol.
And if I have a very bad sore throat I gargle with a (a bit dangerous!) mixture of 1 or 2 drops of Thyme essence (oil) dispersed in a glass of water (available in natural food markets, whole foods markets and so on). But careful, that stuff is strong and you can hurt badly if you get it into your eyes, nose or any soft tissue. Even in the mouth and throat it may hurt. But it kills germs.
For me however that always works to get a soar throat healed within a few days. Even stronger infections.

If you have mumps or step throat then well. For a step throat the doctor can help with antibiotics, I don't think they would work on mumps. Your body has to get this under control.

Now - again...it depends on how well you know your body, how well does it usually heal? And how often do you get sick? Normal bodies have very good self healing qualities.

To support your immune system you can eat hot self made chicken broth and take some extra vitamins. And - sleep a lot. That heals me of the most problems in very short time. Sleep is the best to support your immune system (pretty cheap too).

Do you have white spots in your throat? Personally, it sounds like strep throat. If you have a swollen, red throat with white spots. How can you tell the glands are swollen? I've thought mine were before and was wrong. IN the back of your neck or front? Each of those are things you'll need to know. I don't know if a doctor is necessary or not. Do you have a fever? If you do, and it lasts for more than a couple days, you should go to a doctor. I hope you feel better soon!

YES. I don't have health insurance, either. But I know when I did, my doctor would always make me come into the office if my glands were swollen (if they weren't he would usually prescribe me something over the phone). Doctors are expensive, but if you have a small town near you, go there. It is at least half the price, and they went through the same medical school as big city doctors. You might not want a heart transplant in Podunk, U.S.A., but a simple check for swollen glands is a safe bet. Also, be sure to tell them you don't have insurance. You can get a discount, and they will sometimes let you pay in installments.

Um, you should go to the doctor sounds like you are having a bad time breathing! You should gargle with apple cider vinegar this will reduce your sore throat, but it is nasty.

You should try to gargle with warm salt water for a day but don't swallow it. That is things that my parents had us do when we were kids. Hope you feel better.
