I don't really think the Arctic Monkeys are all that great...... but considering the competition they definitely deserved to win.
The cometition was crap..... mind u, I would like to know what the judges actually look for when they judge the mercury nominees, I mean look at last years winner "Anthony and the Johnsonns" what utter rubbish. The Kaiser Cheifs were robbed, and even if the prize wasn't gonna go to the Kaiser Cheifs there were a lot more albums deserving of the award last year than the actual winners.

Just listen to White Bread and Black Beer and then tell me that Scritti Politti wasn't given a bad deal. The Mercury Prize was supposed to be an alternative to The Brits but seem to have lost the way. Arctic Monkeys are good in their own genre but you can hear them about 20 times a day, every day on the radio.
Surely this isn't what it is all about. You can have just so much very similar music before boredom gets the better of you.

i thought the competition was poor this year, some of the albums were awful (Thom Yorke). They have brought something new and original to british music, so yes
