Say for instance a batter hits a grounder to third base and third base throws it to first to get this batter out. Would that be a ground out to third or a firce out 5-3 ( third to first)

That would be a simple ground out. A force out occurs when you cut down a runner advancing to second, third or home, when the runner is in a situation where he HAS to run.

Example: Runner on first, batter hits a grounder to third, third baseman throws to second to force out the runner at second.

Good question, you even got the scoring right (5-3). In the example, it would be a 5-4 force out. Keep learning! You're doing great. My wife never asks me any questions like that. She just tells me to change the channel, LOL!

A force play always will require a player or more on the bases when the batter hits the ball. A fielder would then need only to touch the base where a player is coming .. creating a 'force-play.'
A ground out is a ball hit to a player who then tosses the ball to another teammate preceeding the batter to the base.
Your example is one of these, a ground out.

Any time someone grounds out and there is a throw to get the batter to first base it is automatically a force; however, it takes the force out at any other base away as soon as the batter is thrown out at first

The thirdbaseman throwing to first base is a 5-3 groundout. Now if there were runners on 1st and 2nd and the third baseman touched third base before throwing, it would be a force out at thirdbase and therefore a double play

A force out is when the player is forced to run from the base he is on because the batter becomes a runner. Unless there is no one on the base behind him- ex. player is on second and the batter hits the ball. The player is not forced to run because there is an open base behind him. When a batter hits the ball, he does have to run to first, but I do not think it is considered a force, because there is no one running behind him.

5-3 ground out AND a force out. A force out is when a runner is put out because he/she HAD to or was forced to run. The batter must try to advance to 1st therefore always a force out.
