Well the world is built around computers, so any area is going to pay well, but the things the IT idustry need more than anything is Software Developers.
Anyway can type on a PC with a few classes teaching them, anyone can learn how to make a simple website with help, anyone can simple place the compoents in a PC and make it work with help, but something that is hard to do is Software Development, its certainly one of the areas i plan to work in as well as Web Development.

- stock broker in IT sector
Generally: the closer you get to the actual computer the lower the pay. The closer you get to management and finance the better the pay

It changes from year to year, even quarter to quarter. COBOL programmers used to make big bucks, now they can't get jobs cleaning toilets.
For this year's outlook, see

With reference to location in the upcoming quarter, see

Skills in wireless technology are hot right now

Good programmers/developers are always in demand, but you'd better diversify and learn several programming languages.
