it has battery and is hard wired....it started beeping..so I changed the battery...kept beeping..another battery....if you do the button test..works....the battery portion has stopped beeping but even when you reconnect to the hard wired part--the hard wired part won't stop.....

any suggestions?????? if not can someone tell me how to disable the hardwire, without breaking it permanently, until I can get someone in to look at it...driving me crazy....and YES I know you are not supposed to disable ...but I do have 3 othe smoke detectors and 3 carbon monoxide detectors in the house--thks

the smoke detector has gone bad. When you say it is hard wired there should be a plug in the back. Push together and pull it back out. get a new one that has the wiring and put the new plug in you may have to change the plug if you do change by wire colors they should match up.pull the new battery tab and you are good to go.

I have fixed this many times, it is one of two things, most likley the first, it needs to be vaccumed or blown out because of dust build up, if that dose not work, it needs to be replaced.

as well depending on the age of the smoke detector, it should simply twist off its mounting brachet, and unplug. even after that, it might still beep due to the new battery, so chuck it somewhere it can't be heard for your own sanity.

Sounds like to me the smoke detector is defective, disconnect the hardwiring and the battery and get it replace with a new one. You will have to shut off the eletricity, then disconnect the wires, use wire screws to cover the wires if you don't have a new one to install, or you could just call the fire department in your area to have them come look at it.

There could be a specific type of ion in your homes atmosphere that keeps it going... I had one that did like that periodically, like it had a mind of it's own, finally just took the battery out of it and left it be as I have others as well

Have the same situation. Discovered that the one beeping wasn't the one that needed the battery. I changed batteries in all the alarms and haven't had the problem since.

If you have 3 other detectors, just disable this one by taking out the battery.

1st----its part of the wiring of that room. 2nd--you need to turn that power off to the room by turning the breaker off and use a meter, ticker to see if its shut off. 3rd take and un do the wire nuts and put another on up in its place or put the wire nuts back on and cover it up with a plate and put the old fashion kind that takes just a battery(Lowes) can not get the power off....put the white and black togather and it will spark and you will find the breaker when it pops. it will be off and than you can carry on.
