Are first time mothers usually early or late?

They say late...I am 39 weeks now and just beginning to dialate so I am thinking I may be late...my brother-in-laws sister just had her first and had to have a c-section because she was over 2 weeks past her due date and nothing was happening!

In my experience, first time mothers are usually on time (maybe even late) assuming there are no medical problems, gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia, etc. I've also noticed that your first is usually a longer labor than the next ones. But there are no guidelines for the rules of pregnancy/birth. Everyone is different.

I am shocked that so many had the same answer... LATE. I think it all varies.

I was early, my sisters were early, but I also know people that were late. It just depends on the woman's body.

I was two weeks late with my first. And I know woman who were a month early. It's up to your body and your baby.

IT just depends on your body. My first child was b orn early she was dues on the 15 and had her on the 11. I got up in the middle of the night to go pee and water broke !! No contractions. ( I was one of the rare ones with the water just braking) And for my 2nd child I was induced early because I had gestional diabetes. She was due the 18 and had her on the 12. Both of there weights were good also 1st one 7.07 and 2nd 8.03

Late. I was 5 days late with my son. 2nd time around ( I am 5 months along with my 2nd.) you are on time or early.

In majority of cases, usually early by two weeks and the labor is long about 8 hours.

All depends on the individual. My sister was like 2 weeks late.
