Not one person on this site is authorized to answer this question.

I am sure you will get some lofty intellectual rhetoric, though.

Just remember it is BS.

I think they are worse off but not because of anything political. I think that the middle class generally lives outside of their means by living off credit cards. I think that now (6 yrs later) they have much more debt then they would have had they either not purchased the items they did, or if they just paid cash. Those card's minimum payments have now gone up and they are paying several hundreds of dollars a month on credit card bills that they did not have 6 years ago - for merchandise they didn't really need.

I was looking at the census a while back... and it seemed to be pointing to the general idea that those on the ends of the spectrum of the middle class are falling off into the extremes... those that are on the high end are getting richer, those on the low end are falling into poverty... as the numbers in poverty are growing and also the number of millionaires are growing...

but more people are on the lower end than on the upper end, so that's not good..

as far as those in the middle of that... there are fears that inflation could start to increase at a higher rate (with fuel costs being so high, buy they are starting to fall thank goodness) and insurance rates have been increasing at a tremendous rate over the past 6 years... it's not easy... but it's not exactly a state of emergency either...

the cost of tuition has also raised at a tremendous rate, so it's harder to get an education now days... (up to 40 percent increase in some colleges since 2000)... that doesn't help any...

My husband and I make a lot more money than we did 6 years ago, but we struggle more now than we did then. I think the middle class is worse off. What do you think?

well when I was younger, my family was middle class. now that I'm married and not living with my mom and dad anymore, we are definitely not even close to middle class. we are probably at the poverty level. it's really hard to keep up when you are only making $8 an hour part time...I know there are some people that make only minimum wage, but I really think that the government should mandate that if the cost of gas, groceries, and housing goes up, everyone should get a cost of living raise...that's just my opionion. There is absolutely no way that anyone can live on minimum wage supporting a husband or a wife and a family. I think that it's sick that the government doesn't see what's going on.

Six years ago I made great money in the tech industry at a career I had for twenty years. Now I can't find a job doing what I did anywhere. Thousands of people have been laid off in tech companies, uh did someone say outsourcing?
Also, there was a time when one income could support a family, now everything has gone so sky high it is ridiculous.

They are screwed. Many have adjustable mortgages and fixed incomes. With inflation rising and their mortgages rising we are going to see a huge number of middle class losing their homes. But do not worry our Democratic and Republican congress have protected the big banks from taking loses by passing the bankruptcy bill.

MIddle class is slowly becoming a thing of the past. Now there are only 2 classes; the rich and the poor - there is no middle class anymore. So, to answer your question - yes, because they are now the poor class.

If people live above there means they are,you set your spending below the lowest income you bring home then save so much every week as much as you can without touching it,or invest.I still cannot get ahead but this helps. Good luck.
