When you go to delete something you can hold down the shift key when you press the delete key, this will bypass the Recycle Bin and purge the file from Windows immediately.

Unfortunately this only removes the information about the file from the File System, that actual contents of the file stored as bytes on your hard drive are only flagged to be written over the next time something is written to your hard drive. Someone with the right software could still access those files.

The only way to completely remove the files existence is to perform a low level format on the hard drive, which I do not recommend if you want to continue using your computer, or save something else to your hard drive that overwrites those sectors. The bad part is you won't know when that has happened.

Realize that all data stored on a hard drive is magnetic. If you are going to get rid of a PC and want the hard drive to be clear of all your data, first get an erase magnet and this will polarize all the iron oxide chrystals on your drive. It will take moving the erase magnet in a circular direction for several minutes on both sides of the hard drive. Then, get the low level format utility for your particular brand of hard drive. You will need to make sure that you boot from a bootable floppy and have the low level format utility on the same floppy, or boot to DOS from a Windows install CD and then run the low level format utility from a separate floppy. When you are finished, you can rest assured that all but highly trained specialists can recover anything from this type of erasure and reformatting. Hope this helps!

When you delete a file it still stays on your hardrive... the best way to reduce the possibility retrieving that data will be you put more data in that drive or defragment or that partition. This will overwrite the data stored on the hdd.

Delete - not really but you can overwrite the space. there are software programs that overwrite all empty space to destroy what you deleted. If you want to really make sure then take the drive out, dissasemble it and pound it with a sledge hammer. Of course you will lose all of your data that way.
