Computer the last 2 days is slow in running applications and internet...really slow. I ran Adware, Norton Anti-virus, Defragged the hard drive, cleaned out the temp internet files and cookies.

Still nothing!!! i am starting to get pissed, only had the computer 6 months. Windows XP pentium 3 or 4..not sure only 256 RAM.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Ok. Definitely get a memory upgrade. I have 1 GB of memory and sometimes I still think it's slow. Try using something other than Norton, as that takes up so much resources. Defrag your memory if you can, with like System Mechanic or something. Just use some more, smaller programs to check for spyware. Are you multitasking? That could slow it down.

You need more memory if its just 256MB. The 2nd thing is go to www.ewido.net and either run the scan from the website or download the software and run it. It will clean things up like spyware and trojans. Lastly, norton anti-virus is a horrible memory hog. You might want to consider replacing that with avast (www.avast.com).

Probably because you're running Adware and Norton. Those use up a LOT of system resources. See what else you have running in the background, and see if you can delete anything. If all else fails, try a system restore.
