It makes sence to me, but really does it?

Yes, that's a cute thought. But the actual etymology (source of the word) of Bible is from Greek, which is the original language the New Testament was written in.

In Greek, the common word for "book" is "biblios" - which in English we transliterated to "Bible."

Incidentally, this etymology is also why the list of reference books at the end of a textbook is called a "bibliography".

LOL, I heard it was "Basic Instructions. . ." That's just a fun and catchy bit of wordplay. The word "Bible" isn't an acronym; that is, its letters don't stand for other words. I think it actually comes from a Greek word.

No it doesn't mean that. I've heard Basic instructions before leaving earth, but it doesn't stand for anything other than that it is a holy book and should be respected.

it doesn't really stand for that... like the other person said, it's derived from "biblios"... but the band Burlap to Cashmere has a song called, "Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth"... it's pretty catchy, you should check it out!
