It's against the law to kill ANYONE, including yourself.

Most North American laws are somewhat based in the laws of the Christian religion, and Christians believe it's sinful to kill yourself.

It's one of those "we want to protect you from yourself" laws. I normally vehemently opppose those laws, but in this case it's different.

With very few exceptions, suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Many of us can go through depressions with suicidal thoughts. The law is there to provide a means for such a person to get help. It provides that public services can send you off for obserevation and treatment.

But no, they don't send you to jail.

I know i don't see the point its not like they are going to punished for it. If a woman can get an abortion since 'she can do as she pleases with her body' (which i don't agree with) then someone can kill themself, its their body right.

It relies upon on what you mean by protecting your self. If somebody breaks into your place and threatens you with loss of existence or extreme actual harm, you are able to respond with the quantity of stress mandatory to end the possibility. And by threaten, i do no longer mean that they verbally say they are going to diminish your throat from 20 ft away. they could desire to be able (knife) and possibility (proximity) to accomplish the possibility. merely reported, you are able to no longer shoot somebody for merely breaking into your place. That being mentioned, there are some states that have something referred to as the fort Doctrine which ability, in essence, your place is your fort and you haven't any longer have been given any reason to retrat from achieveable and can stand your floor.
