If there are 3 people running for office, I like candidate A a lot, kind of like candidate B & can't stand candidate C, you would think I'd vote for candidate A, wouldn't you?

But if candidate A has the support of only 10% of the people & the rest are split between B & C, I won't waste my vote on A, even if I like him best. I'll vote for B to keep C from winning.

Remember Nadar? That is probably the reason Bush won in 2000, because liberal 3rd party candidates got votes that would have gone to Gore.

(I can relate to your emotion, though. I'm a bit of a libertarian)

to vote for a third party is to vote for a dem or a repub depending on the leaning of the third party guy . If he's lib the repub makes out if the third party guy is con the dem makes out because the third party guy will never have enough votes to beat one of the other parties out right he will just draw votes that would have gone to a dem or a repub ask al gore he was sunk by ralph nader in florida by drawing 90,000 votes enuogh to have made him president. Third parties are just spoilers it's not fair but it is very true!

I'd consider an Independent, Libertarian or Constitutionalist.

Greens are just nut-job Communists

Never heard of the others.
