People need to stop being such wusses and say Merry Christmas if they want to.

It would be different if we forced people to say Merry Christmas, but we don't, so everyone should just deal with freedom of speech and the tolerance that must come with it.

Merry Christmas is December 25th, Happy New Years is January 1st. The point is if you are speaking of Christmas, then it is Merry Christmas, but if you are referring to the holidays or holiday season between Thanksgiving and New Years, then I would say "Happy Holidays". I'm very conservative and don't do a lot of chattering to hear myself talk, so I would use as few words to express myself as possible.

I said Merry Christmas to a Jewish guy who didn't know I knew he was Jewish. He didn't answer, but I could tell from the look on his face that he didn't like it. Now I have a policy of saying happy holidays unless I know the person I'm talking to is the sort who celebrates Christmas.

Personally I would be pleased if someone said happy Hanuka or happy Kwanza, or happy anything, but other people have their own likes and dislikes. I just try to make them smile.

It all depends who you are saying it too, Merry Christmas doesn't go over very well to a family of jewish faith, Happy Holidays can go for everyone.
