He was a " GOOD " musician.......but over the years......alcohol eventually took center stage...how do I get him to see this....and how do I let him know that his music is still beautiful to me ?

That's tough. For some reason a lot of us fall into the bottom of a bottle...or worse.
Try to catch him in a sober moment (I know they can be few and far between) ask him to play an old favorite for you.
Don't lecture, nag or preach - just gently let him know you love the music and him.

Bring him to a group to help him reduce his drinking. Musical talent, or any talent for that matter, shouldn't be wasted at all.

Video tape him playing drunk..show it to him sober........
if he is a good musician he will see it.............. unfortunately he has to want it for himself....
just keep asking him to play for you when he is sober..............
