I'd like to make this a 2 for 1. Answer one or both if you like.

1.) What do you consider to be the best book(s) you've read.

2.) Is there some kind of record for most books ever that one person has read?

I think it's so amazing how there are so many books in the world in so many languages. Not to mention fanfiction, poems and other things on the internet written by regular people.

I adored To Kill a Mockingbird and The Great Gatsby. I truly feel sorry for those who have yet to discover the wonders of reading.

It's one of our last solitary acts where you bring some of yourself and your imagination to the story--unlike film or television.

My favorites are too numerous to mention but reading is one of my most enjoyed activities.

I'm going to just rattle of a few of my personal "favs"- To Kill A Mockingbird, Junky, A Million Little Pieces, The BFG, Catcher in the Rye, White Oleander, The Rough-faced Girl (that's a picture book, but a good one), The Little Prince, Wiseguy, Go Ask Alice, A Wrinkle in Time, Waasa Inaabidaa, Catch-22, The Velveteen Rabbit, A Clockwork Orange, The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven, The Witching Hour, Fear and Loathing in Las Veags, Sybil, The Bell Jar, The Good Earth. I'm a bookworm.

I don't think that I have any kind of record. But I read on a regular basis. I check out 4-5 books a week at the library a week. On all subjects in fiction but romances. I have no favorites, I just like to read, I don't have cable or the inernet in my home. I put the radio on and grab a book.

Best book I've ever read is "The Moon and Sixpence" by Sommerset Maughm.

I don't know about the record, but Chick-Fil-A just gave an award to some 10 year old who read something like 430 books in one year. Crazy!

As a English major and teacher, I have read many novels. However, I think that the one book that really impacted me was Jane Eyre. I think it is the most romantic book I have ever had the pleasure of reading. It is very unrealistic for the time period, but extremely romantic. Jane, the heroine, is one of the strongest female characters in literature.

One of the best books that I have really enjoyed reading and quite sad when I came to the end - that is Leo Tolstoy's War & Peace. I have read it a couple of times since.

I generally like historical books both fact and fiction and I once went the library and was quite surprised to find that I had read every book they had in one particular section.
