you are right
if you want to divide
x^2-9)x^3+0x^2+0x-1(x
x^3 -9x
9x-1
the division will stop as the remainder is of a lesser degree
so the answer is
(x^3-1)/(x^2-9)=x+(9x-1)/(x^2-9)
x is the quotient and 9x-1 is the remainder
