I think it's a very sad loss. As an Australian, I truly respect his legacy of saving our wildlife..especially our marsupials...It was a freak accident...as there has been only 3 recorded deaths in Australia from a stingray.
May Steve Irwin aka "The Crocodile Man" and his legacy for Australian wildlife live on...

i think it's an absolute tragedy, i cried when i heard. like i'm sure so many others feel, he was my hero, my idol. his work was amazing and he had such a good understanding of all animals behaviour but especially reptiles. the world was a better place when he was alive and i still can't believe he's gone. the way he went aswell i think was shocking, all the dangerous crazy stuff he did with giant crocs and he gets killed by a fish. but having said that, and even though i wish he was here, he died doing what he loved and not many of us can say that. his death is a huge loss to the world but he will always be remembered and i'm sure his family and friends will carry on the brilliant work that he so suddenly left behind. it was strange that day, he died but i had my little baby corn snakes hatch out the same day, i have named them the irwins, after him :) i would also like to say that i wish the best of luck to terri and his beautiful children, for the future. i can't imagine what it must be like for them, but to have such a wonderful person in their lives is a priviledge and i'm sure they have so many happy memories of him that nothing and no-one can take away.

Shame on those who say he "deserved" to die - he wasn't a murderer or a child rapist - he was a man who was passionate about educating people about all types of wildlife and he DID NOT DESERVE TO DIE! Yes, we may not have always agreed with the way he did things, but he did so much for the conservation of wildlife and he will be sorely missed. How many of you know that he raised money to buy land around the world to give animals conservation land to live in peace and safety on? Yes, we saw the flamboyant side of him, showing what the animals can do in the wild (I wouldn't consider that "taunting" animals) Things he showed gave us an idea of what crocodiles and other animals were capable of doing.
He will be missed by many and it is very sad that his life was ended so soon.

I feel for his wife and kids left behind. I liked Steve Irwin's telly shows. And he gave up vast amounts of his fortune to buy up land to protect wildlife. Not just in Oz either. I for one tip my hat in respect, even if a few others can't.

Its a shame of course, but theres another woman with 2 children that are now going to grow up fatherless all in the name of tv and exciting but pure madness.I wonder if Steve Irwin thought about them and the consequences of his actions with wild animals every time he messed with dangerous beasts

It was a horrible tragedy. He did so much for wildlife, especially the ones not too many people like (like crocs & snakes & spiders). The sad part is that he was filming a documentary for his daughter and saw a school of stingrays. It was his decision to film them even though it wasn't a part of the documentary. I read that he never saw the stingray that killed him until after it stung him. I feel horrible for Terri, Bindi Sue and Bob, they are the ones who are going to miss him the most. Little Bindi Sue was daddy's little girl and she idolized him. God Bless you Steve, RIP

I think it's very sad.
he was a great TV personality with a great love for animals and animal conservation.
it sounds like what happened was a freak accident, they said something like only 17 people have died that way in nearly 150 years.
I'm very sad for his small children as well, it will be really hard to grow up without a father..

I've watched his 'Crocodile Hunter' series for ages - he was so crazy and passionate about what he did. I think it's really sad, he has done so much for conservation and really engaged his audiences. My sympathy really goes out to his family and friends. He truly was one of a kind. RIP Steve

I think it's really sad. In some way I alway's knew he would die from some kind of attack from an animal because he was so unafraid to take risks with them. I do pray for him and I think it's horrible. I think it's terrible that a few other people that answered you question said he deserved to die. He did not deserve to die and I don't feel as though he tormented the animals at all. He loved animals! For the one's that said that, you have no hearts at all. Carma's a b_i_t_c_h! So watch out people who said he deserved it.

It's a loss of a very talented human being who had a deep understanding for animals. Unfortunately he used his skills sometimes to annoy animals and make them feel threatened, which was wholly unnecessary to his stated goal of saving wildlife.
