Is there a minimum height for police officers in the UK? I saw one the other day who can't have been more then 5'5" I swear! It used to be something like 5'10" have standards dropped?

I'm not sure about the height or weight requirements for the UK but I do see the police getting smaller, but better built.

My reasoning for this would be: It use to be that all the cops hung out at the donut shops waiting for calls. And they got fat and sloppy. These days the cops are having to deal with a totally different world of crime and the thugs are getting bigger and the drugs they are on making them whack out are getting more potent.

Cops these days are more self conscience about their health, are working out alot more because they have to be in better physical shape in order to take down the bad guys.
They can't be fat and sloppy and still get their man.

As for the height thing, I think that with people being in better over all health these days that it doesn't matter what the height is, it depends on their build, and their intellectual ability to out smart the bad guys,

You are right, they are getting smaller, and pimplier too!

The minimum height requirement for police officers was abolished by the Government in 1990 on the advice of the Police Advisory Board.

that is quite likely. The height restriction no longer exists, and i guess their after more diverse people (rather than focusing solely on people with age based life experience). More young people also go on fast track schemes straight out of uni (i though about doing this, but changed my mind).. I'm young and short :-)

That was a heightist remark. Just cause the heights are dropped doesn't mean the standard has dropped.... Doy!

The head of the Met is Ian Blair.

He said more people will people will be shot. It could be you.

A man with a gun in England is a bandit or a Police Officer. How do you tell the difference? He may be short **** copper?

It Doesn't matter how big or old a police person is, in this day and age they can't do this they can't do that, the European rights body tie their hands so much, and the courts are too soft, I feel sorry for them they do the best under stupid rules.

They removed the height limit a few years ago - so yes they probably do seem smaller now

Yes definitely much smaller. and the army, we had some army lads doing a marathon rowing machine thing for charity in our store last week, and some of them looked as if the wind would blow them over let alone a bullet.
