To deter the selling of porn magazines, eBay has banned the sale of all magazines.

I do not think that it is illegal. You can sell used books after all. I do think that there is a very limited market for old magazines. Unless it is something with historic value, it is probably not worth the selling and shipping costs.

Maybe it depends on the type of magazines you were trying to sell. I am sure e bay has a place where you could ask this same question

Probably because people would start making their own magazine and trying to sell it that way.

I purchased an Old Time Life mag a while back.
Are you trying to sell subscriptions? If so that is the problem. It would be a problem with feedback and payment.
