I have a mixture of 50/50 water and bleach for cleaning purposes, does the bleach loose it's potency after a while. The mixture does not seem to work as well as when first mixed.

Yes it does. You do not need to use 50/50. A solution of one part bleach to nine parts water (1/10) is enough. That is the ratio used to clean in the hospital and doctor's offices. You should make this up fresh every day, or just when you need it.

Yes. Chlorine bleach will lose its potency when exposed to air, as the chlorine evaporates out of the solution and dissipates. If you can smell chlorine, that means it is no longer dissolved in the solution and is no longer effective as a bleach.

yes bleach only stays active for a while

it soon looses its oxidising properties

use it asap
