Energy can not be created or destroyed, only changed from one form to another. In order to survive all creatures spirit or not require energy. The spirit will draw what energy is can from the area around it. A theory is that spirits commonly use heat as a form of sustainment.

ISN'T THAT USUALLY WHERE THE SPIRITS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE, IN THE COLD AREAS.
