Absolutely!

Kids know too much of what they shouldn't and not enough of what they should. Quite frankly I blame that first on lazy parents. Secondly teachers can be lazy as well, but it's easy for them to become worn out when they work with children who have lazy parents.

To put it another way, parents have more influence in their children's lives than anyone else. The only problem is they don't believe that. They need to!

Not to say all parents are lazy, but that particular problem tends to be quite proportional. The tendency is children who have more parental attention have this problem less than kids who have lazy parents. Yes parenting is very difficult, but it doesn't help to give up and not try. On the other hand when you do try a little bit goes a long way!

Oh and one other thing...for the love of all that is good and right.... Parents...I beg you...please.....please...please.... stop counting on the media to raise or even teach anything at all to your kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They're yours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know I do.
And I think it's that way because of all the generations that have come before us. The more you control, the more people want to rebel. But, of course, they don't want to go too far, that's how, if you notice, we have gotten slowly more and more open about things like sex and drugs. I know too much because my parents didn't know enough, so they found out. Thus, they told me so I don't make their same mistakes. Which is how I'm such a great person, but have a horrible horrible mind.
But I'll never understand why some words are "bad words." They're just arrangements of letters. Why can I say "a pox on your maternal lineage" yet not be allowed to politely tell a man that his mother is a female dog?

I definitely do agree with that. There are a lot of reasons why this is the case. For example, there are some parents who don't care what comes out of their mouths in front of their child, there are a lot of movies with sexual contents on television, including music videos and they come on at any time of any day, the games they play have a lot of bad words and sexual contents, etc. In my country, when we were younger, there is no way that we could be looking at the things these kids look at today and more so, what they are saying. I see kids out on the streets all hours of the night when they should be in their beds. With all this, they are expected to have a good productive life and do well in school. If all these things are being provided for them, how could they possible concentrate on school and do well on all these state exams? It is just terrible.

Yes indeed.
I think our youth are at risk and constantly bombarded with adult issues.
Even the Disney channel makes me question why we need to address sexuality and other adult issues to kids.
The Bratz dolls are training our girls to dress like hoochies.
Just look at any fasio magazine and tell me the models in provocative poses are over 18 years.
Of course someone get's caught with an underage girl or looking at young girls porn and they are considered a sick pervert but see it on tv or a mag and it is considered art? Art my ****!
I say either make the legal age back to fourteen, or for Pete's sake leave the pooor kids to be kids.
I won't even bother to mention MTV.
I think it is because we have entertained too many liberal ideas which have eroded conventional traditions. The 'it's ok as long as it does no harm' attitude is bull.

They know of these but not to the extent that they need to. I think they are desensitized to the point that they use these things dangerously and carelessly. We cannot hide these things from younger people though, we can only teach, support, and discipline(within reason and so they learn somthing after) them. Parents have a huge role and I've seen some kids get away with things you wouldn't believe. Sure, be your child's friend but don't forget, you're a parent FIRST!

Yes, over time we have accepted more things that shouldn't be acceptable for younger kids. Expect a Sesame Street episode where Elmo gets Zoie pregnant coming to a TV near you soon.

TV and media. R ratings allow private parts to be shown!!!! and our society accepts it and even calls those that are appalled "uptight".

However, I'm all for free speech and media. So I think the parents should be responsible for controlling what their child is exposed to.
