Every morning while driving my son to school it seems like someone insists on riding my butt on the freeway! I was driving on a two lane next to a big rig and had to just about cut in front of the big rig to get this guy off my butt! It's not like I am not going fast enough, (a little above the limit even) but I guess these jerks just want a ticket or something!
How do you handle it when this happens to you?

If it wasn't so DANGEROUS I probably would let it slide. But its no fun having your tail rode on a two lane next to a big rig.

Yes, Chris, but was going 75 in a 65 to PASS a SLOW TRUCK......I am NOT going to wait behind a truck going 50 so some a$$wipe can fly by out of nowwhere at 100 miles an hour.

You should be driving in the RIGHT lane. Then ignore them if they ride your butt. But if you are going to drive in the LEFT lane remember it is for PASSING ONLY. So, if you are not passing the cars on your right you should be in that lane, not pacing them in the left.
The law in Virginia is SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT. It does NOT say slower that the speed limit it says slower. Slower than the guy behind you.
Anyway, if you have no where to go because of some slowpoke in front of you then you should just not look in your mirror. I just pretend they are not there, and if they hit you go to the hospital and if you have a kid in the car they are responsible for the kids injuries until the kid is 18. So, most people will not hit you.
Oh here is my favorite though. If you do decide that you are gonna pull the hit the brakes thing, you are not protected unless there was a reason for you to be braking. My story would be this:
I saw a small child running into the highway. He was small so the person behind me probably didn't see him. I couldn't hit the child so I had to stop fast. I don't know where the child went.

The road is in front of you. Quit watching the people behind you. Let them worry about how fast or how slow your going. Tapping your brakes will not change the way they drive and is a good way to cause an accident.

You shouldn't be in the fast lane impeading traffic . This is illegal and the main reason we have traffic problems and causes accidents!!. The left lane is for people to pass slower traffic in the right lane, not for you to drive slower than traffic trying to get past you effectively boxing them in. Ever see those signs on the freeway... SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT? You wouldn't have this prolem if you moved over to the proper lane!! If everyone followed this our traffic would move quicker !! Most states follow the Uniform Vehicle Code and require drivers to keep right if they are going slower than the normal speed of traffic (regardless of the speed limit)The vehicle to the rear has the right of way. If a vehicle is behind you and it is possible for you to move to the right you must do it. Not moving over to allow a vehicle to pass on the left is a ticketable offense.

WOW!!!! I relate being in central Texas...my fave thing to do is this....tap your breaks, just enough to drop your speed maybe one mph. make emm nervous, this is more fun when you can block them (it would be impossible to pass you, another car?) make sure not to go under the speed limit thoguh because then its your fault for not following road rules. or, my husbands fave thing (when our son isnt in the car) he slams the gas peddle to the floor, gets ahead by just a little, goes to the other lane (highway or freeway) then when the a$$ goes to pass him, he jerks the wheel hard, cuts them off within inches...best part.....if they hit you, its thier fault. Even though you cut them off, they put you in danger first, you were just trying to get away and didnt realize they had sped up so fast and got on ur arce again.

I like to slam on my brakes just enough to scare the crap out of them. What I'd really like to do is shot them in the face but since I don't have a gun or the balls, that's what I'm left with. Hey if they hit me, new car!

I like to make sure that my brakes work...
Or, if you have that semi next to you, go even slower than the semi, but make sure that the distance between your nose and the semi's rear isn't enough for that person to pass... they'll get the hint ha ha ha

I don't get mad. I just tap on the brakes a few times until they back off.

Let it be.
You can't change them.
If you react to them, you could cause an accident.
Just calmly ignore them, pay attention to your driving and get in the next lane when it clears.
Take joy in the fact that you don't allow them to ruin your day.
