Now, in New Jersey, it is a LAW that we cannot have anthing like chips, sugar, sugar drinks, or icecream at schools. They took away the ice cream machine, sugary drink fountains, and chips! It is so mean! I mean, the sugar and ice-cream I don't mind, but the CHIPS!? ahaha We also no longer have pizza or ice cream sundaes.

Today, I got a deli sandwhich and went to get packets of mayonaise. I opened them and there was this clear, yellow, chunky, smelly mayonaise!!! I'm not kidding! I OPENED 4 PACKETS AND THEY WERE ALL OLD!! Then, I got the lunch lady to get good mayonaise. By the time a sat down, the bell rang!

So, how was your day? DID YOU HAVE CHIPS, COOKIES, AND OR SUGAR?!!!

None of the schools around here have any of that anymore. You can get juice, water, fruit, pretzels, etc. any time of the day in the cafeteria, for free! You are at school to learn, not eat. Have you heard anything about the obesity problems of teenagers??? HELLO?

We have that in KY too. But the teachers break it all the time.

But its not that horrible. We never had pizza b4 and because Im kinda in a poor school, we didnt EVER have ice cream or sugary drinks.

No offense, but its really not that hard to get over it.

My advice: stock up on it at home and then have it for dinner instead of lunch.. remember school is only 6 hrs of your day!!!

In 8th grade I used to eat a cookie and a slurpee for lunch. Nutritious, huh? Good thing my mom didn't know or she would have been mad at me.

Childhood obesity is a huge problem in today's world. I work in a children's hospital and I can't tell you how hard it is to see kids with diabetes and asthma who are sitting in their hospital beds eating chips! The parents are next to them eating fast food. You just feel like shaking them and telling them to wake up!

Kids just don't get out and play outdoors anymore. TV, video games, and the internet are their recreation. I think it is sad that we have to get to this point where schools take action but if no one else is trying to stop this trend towards childhood obesity who will?

Sorry the mayo at school was all nasty. I would have lost my appetite.

I think that is a great idea. You do not need all the crap that the schools a giving out for lunch. I think you should have healthy meals at school. Let you parents give that to you if they choose. My kids take their lunch becuase of the unhealthy food that they serve at school. All the things that you are missing should only be eaten every so often, not a stable diet of it. Be happy that you will grow up healthy and be able to make good choices about your diet.

It's about time something was done about the junk food that gets served to KIDS at SCHOOL. They're supposed to be there learning how to be healthy productive adults. Serving junk food undermines that, not only by teaching bad habits, but by making it harder to concentrate and learn!

Schools that serve healthy foods actually have fewer "behavioral problems" to deal with, and the students learn better.

I hope more schools around the country start doing the right thing.

Wow- now i have to go research the laws past! I personally think this is a good idea but maybe not executed well... Obesity is a major problem in our country so anything to help young people learn better habits is a good idea. Besides, you can still have your brownies and doritos after school right ;}

Good, now maybe we can force children to make healthy choices about what to eat at least during the school hours. Maybe the dentists will stop making a fortune off of cavities, hypertension will be less and obesity will come to a halt. Yeah, I see this as a GREAT thing!!

Oh No, less fat kids!!! The horror!
It is gross about the chunky mayo. If you really want to stir things up in the cafeteria, ask how much salt/sodium is in all the processed crap they serve in the hot lunch line! tell them you are really worried about the blood pressure of all the already overweight student population.

yeah i do! I have an ice cream machine and a drink machine but this year we can't have lemonade in the machines anymore! And I don't know why!
I want them to let us have soda! Also, you have sugared drinking fountains? I don't!
hope they change your law!

I go to Catonsville High in Maryland, and we still have all of that junk food. However, i know that the get rid of junk food campaign is spreading.

And that mayo sounds completely disgusting! I'd give up after the 2nd try...

LOL
