Well, if you follow the paper trail and get passed White Star and some other corporations, it will lead you to John Pierpont Morgan.

At the time, 75% of the merchant ships of the world were his property.

I have known for a number of years who the owner is, its not the Americans it is Douglas J Faulkner Woolley. I have read his book ''Titanic-one mans dream'' and it clearly states in the book how he obtained the rights and ownership. I have also read other Titanic books, and Douglas is mentioned in quite a few, those authors can't all be wrong. I have also read recently ''The Irish Times'', and in the article, it mentions the latest court case involving Premier Exhibitions and their attempt to salvage artifacts and sell them, fortunatly their claims were denied by the Virginian court. Douglas was mentioned in the court and Premier Exhibitions would not comment on Douglas's claims as they were put forward and recognised by the court. I agree that Douglas should salvage the Titanic, because the Americans are using it as a business, instead the Titanic should be brought back to the UK to allow the members of the public to pay their own respects to the lives lost in 1912. The QE1 should also be salvaged and brought back to the UK, as She shortened the war by two years, and also brought the magnacarter back from Fort Knox. If Douglas reads this, I say '' go for it Douglas, dont listen to people saying that it is a grave site, its not a grave site because it has been down there over 75 years, if they can dig up the Egyptian mummies, if this is the case, why dont people mention this? it is so disrespectful for the Americans to go down there and take things off of Titanic, that is worse than what Douglas wants to do, at least he is respecting the lives lost. Good luck Douglas ''

The White Star Line owned and operated the R.M.S. Titanic

It was an Olympic class passenger liner that became infamous for its collision with an iceberg and dramatic sinking in 1912. The second of a trio of superliners, she and her sisters, RMS Olympic and HMHS Britannic, were designed to provide a three-ship weekly express service and dominate the transatlantic travel business for the White Star Line. Built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Ireland, Titanic was the largest passenger steamship in the world at the time of her sinking.

During Titanic's maiden voyage (from Southampton, England; to Cherbourg, France; Queenstown (Cobh), Ireland; then New York), she struck an iceberg at 11:40 PM (ship's time) on Sunday evening April 14, 1912, broke into two pieces, and sank two hours and forty minutes later at 2:20 AM Monday morning April 15.

According to the United States Senate investigation, 1,523 people perished in the accident, ranking it as one of the worst peacetime maritime disasters in history and by far the most famous. Titanic's design used some of the most advanced technology available at the time and the ship was popularly believed to be "unsinkable." It was a great shock that, despite the advanced technology and experienced crew, Titanic sank with a great loss of life. The media frenzy about Titanic's famous victims, the legends about what happened on board the ship, the resulting changes to maritime law, and the discovery of the wreck in 1985 by a team led by Robert Ballard and Jean-Louis Michel have made Titanic persistently famous in the years since.

The ship's sinking is the plotline of the highest-grossing film of all time, the Leonardo DiCaprio-Kate Winslet movie Titanic (1997) which reintroduced the legacy of the disaster to younger generations of the late 20th century

The Brittanic Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool next to Lime Street Station has a function room that is an exact replica of the Titanic's state room, The legend lives on.

Who Really Owned The Titanic?
The Titanic, registered as a British mail ship was really owned by the American railroad tycoon, J.P. Morgan. He had most of the controlling interest in the American railroads and was looking to expand his ownership to seize control of the Atlantic shipping trade. He succeeded in acquiring the White Star Line in 1902. White Star had asked the City of New York to enlarge and extend the piers to accommodate their new super liners and were flatly refused. The City stated that the long piers would extent too far into the Hudson river causing a hazard to navigation. They were subtly persuaded by Morgan who all but owned the docks of New York and had the means to choke the City's import and export trade.
J.P. Morgan had his very own private suite and promenade deck on the Titanic. He was supposed to join her for her maiden voyage but canceled passage sparing him the fate of many of the other millionaires.
