of course the force per unit area is different and the since your body is not a point mass, the momentum change locally, will be different
if you can hit someone with the momentum of your whole body decelerating but the force is delivered so that just their head accelerates (rather than their whole body) then (because a=F/m) their head will accelerate rapidly which will cause unconciousness (in them not you)
the force is only one componant of the effect
