or is the answer 19 ..?? solve whats in parenthesses(23) then divide 8/2 (which is 4) then minus 23 by 4..??but wouldnt i only divide the 8 by 2 if its only in parenthesses?? wouldnt my first answer be right?

think about it this way:
(9+14)-(8/2)

first perform what's in the parenths, then multiplication and division, and finally addition and subtraction.

You do algebra in this order: parenthesses, multiplication/division, additon/subtraction

No the answer is 19. Multiplication and division must all be done before any kind of addition or subtraction, except when the usual order of operations is overridden by the use of parentheses around the addition or subtraction.
