Since it is in a Taures, the best way to remove it is to pour gas on the whole car and toss a match on it, then push it off of a cliff.

mr fixit is right on the tool, but I buy mine at walmart for $4 in the stereo isle.

good luck as the radios aren't usually good if they have sat in the car in the junkyard for a while...

If it's a cassette radio, a Ford dealer can order a remanufactured one for about $150.... cd players are always higher.. you need the Ford part number off the old radio however for pricing and to order it.

also the clip tools go back to about 1988 and are good on fords until about 2004 (some like the taurus still use them in 2007)

on the taurus, find the owners manual as they have a habit of having one outside for the cigar lighter also.. if not the element is burned out and you will need a new one (which you will have to hotwire)

good luck

The second answer is right. Ford has a universal tool to remove stereos and as far as I know it goes back at least to 1992. If you don't care about doing it "ghetto" you could probably use some coat hangers to make the two tools need to remove the stereo. Also, you could got to a car stereo install place and ask them if they will release your stereo for you.

I'm sure that Ford sells the tools to remove the stereo. It's real easy.

maximum later sort Fords (ninety 4 on) desire a particular radio "pulling" device, in many cases could get it from a broker except you will discover one at an area motor vehicle restore shop. I have not have been given any theory what the cost, merely that i stumbled on somebody who i ought to borrow one from. The device is going into the 4 holes or "depressions" on the front of the radio. This releases inner "clips" that carry the radio in place, permitting you to rather pull the radio out.

If you have the original equipment radio in there you need a tool to put in the little holes on the edges of you radio. That releases the clips on the radio that hold it to the frame around it. I have ground down small screw drivers to fit in the hole, then you just push the clip aside. It sounds easier than it is.
