if a psychology student wants to test the hypothesis that female adults who have friendly communication with their parents have high level of self-efficacy then which statistical test will be used?rating scale were used to measure the both variables.

depends how you want the results to come out...the only thing i learned in psych stats is that you can make statistics say anything you want...it just depends on the tests done

The answer to your question depends on the (a) exact hypothesis (research question), (b) the manner in which you collected your data, and (c) the measurement system. If you simply have rating scales for both self-efficacy and family communication style, I'd suggest a simple correlation (you don't have any experimental manipulation. Without knowing the nature of the rating scales, I can't be sure which is the appropriate correlational test, but if the scales have some decent psychometric values, you could go with Pearson's r. If your scales are weak and result in some restriction of range, you could be conservative and try Spearman's rho.

you would simply do a correlation of the two variables. you're only looking at the relationship between these two variables and how they co-vary.
