Take with you only those you might need in a "hurry" or during the night while you go to a pharmacy or drug store like pain relief pills, Pepto Bismol, band aids, etc. Drug stores in Mexico open early in the morning (7:00 or 8:00 am) and close late (11:00 pm or later). In many cities you´ll find a 24-hour pharmacy and big stores like Wal*Mart, Sanborns , and many supermarkets never close. In small towns drug stores take turns and at least one opens all night. Persons who work there can assist you and you don´t need a medical prescription to get an antibiotic in Mexico. Medical brand names are the same (or very similar) to the ones you know, but it would be a good idea if you write down the generic name or active substance you usually take in your country for certain things like colds, stomach infection, etc.
If you´re planning to visit a place in "nowhere" : a lonely beach, go camping, etc. Then you better take much more with you.
Whenever I travel I always carry: a pain reliever / fever reducer, something for stomach pain, Pepto Bismol, an anti-inflammatory, an antihistamine (for allergies), Lonol, and an antibiotic.

If you are staying in the jungle then bring everything that was named below. If you are staying in a 4 or 5 Star resort take nothing but a credit car and some cash. The resorts have purified water as do all the chain restaurants. We go to a large resort 2x a year and have never taken anything except tylenol because we either drank too much or stayed in the sun too long. You can go to Sam's club, Cosco or Walmart and buy bottled water to drink at the pool or at beach.

Stay in the hotel zone unless on a tour and ENJoy Cancun!!

I live in Cancun now and I use to live in Las Vegas. I can say that you don't need to bring anything because if you are going to need any medical supplies here in Cancun, it's best to buy it here. The pharmacies here are alot better than US, you don't need a prescription for every other medicine needed. Here the pharmacist can give you the medicines you need without a doctors prescription. (Not all medicines though, they will not give you any strong controlled substances without a doctors prescription.)

start with a credit card.
because you have to ask, i beleive you have limited first aid background.
if that is true, taking anything else than what you have in your medicine chest at home, you probably can't use well, or appropriately.
i would take water purification tablets, and a collapsible water jug, for the just in case scenario.
tweezers for cactus needles, and supplies from your medicine chest.

If you are in a city, you can buy anything you need. I travel to Riviera Maya about 3 times a year and have never gotten sick. If you do, go to the Pharmacia and buy what you need.
