This is a complicated issue, but we have long been staunch supporters of Israel. Several countries have had long standing feuds and issues with Israel, so they consider us enemies based up on our foreign policies concerning the middle east. This is completely a no-win situation. If we continue our current policies, we will be attacked. If we radically change our policies, we will be attacked by different factions. Only peace that we'll see is when the warring sides stop feuding, which isn't going to happen. Hope that helps a little.

They hate the way we live, our economic success, our freedom, our ability to create, our educational system, our legal system, the diversity of religions practiced in our country, our codified laws... They hate everything that makes us the best country in the world. We have been around since only 1776 and have come from a pipsqueak nation on the edge of nowhere to an economic and military power like the world has never seen. They have been around for about 5000 years and still cannot produce anything other than oil, which comes out of the ground, not from their minds. They are determined to remain backward in a world that can only go forward. And they hate us because of it? They should look at themselves first for someone to hate and kill.

Depends on the attack.
The IRA want a free Northern Ireland.
The ETA want an independent Basque nation.
The Muslims want the destruction of Israel and the entire Western civilization.

To use terror to advance their agenda. If you are too scared to go about your daily life and are scared enough to negotiate with them they win and will only use terror tactics again to get more. They will only respond to force and it is the one thing Clinton didn't use after they hit us in Africa and when they killed 17 sailors on the USS Cole so they figured they could hit us harder the next time and they did on 9-11.

They want some demands met, release of prisoners, re,oval of occupying forces, regime change etc.
If they suffer they think those causing their suffering should suffer too.

Same reason that all wars are fought. It is to gain power over others.

It's not so simple. A minority of people want to change our way of thinking. They can not do it democratically so they use terror tactics. So these anarchists find poor dumb people and convince them that we are the great Satan and martyrs to their cause get lotsa goodies when they go to heaven.

They didn't have toys to play with when they were young,..and they had to find other things to play with. The resulting shock warped their minds.
