I'm the most pleasant guy most of the times, but when someone overtakes me even though I am already generously cruising somewhat past the speed limit, so that no one can accuse me of being a slouch on the road, I snap. All my fuses blow, and I will chase that driver to their death, no matter how hard they try to get away.
I really want to get a grip on myself before someone might get hurt, because this is crazy. Does anyone have any handy ideas how I could switch off that war-automatic of mine?
Thanks.

The easiest way would be to just not take things personally. Most people's actions, certainly their driving, are for their own reasons and don't really have anything to do with you. Chill and enjoy.

Buy an old crate of a car that only does a maximum of 70.
Failing that just take a deep breath and relax and tell yourself that it doesn't matter if someone else overtakes you.
It always helps to be relaxed whilst driving so put on some music you like, get comfortable, plan your journey in advance so you're not worrying about it and allow enough time for your journey.
Presumably all those people you overtake aren't in the least bit bothered so why should you be.
In your car you're completely anonymous so you're not losing face by not being the fastest driver on the road as no-one knows who you are. Just relax, take it easy and enjoy.

I used to drive like that. I would get furious if someone passed me when i was going 10mph over the speed limit already. In college i even had a bumper sticker saying "i'm only driving this way to piss youoff" .
I have stopped doing that now because several times I came to close to getting into an accident. I'm more mature now and realize that there are a lot of idiots on the roads. Just realize the people passing you or cutting in front will get tickets from cops or will get in accidents. If you pay attention, it happens all the time.

We all have faults and this is a relatively minor one.
You might consider attending anger management classes or reading a book on the topic. It is irrational to risk your life to prove something to some stranger than you will never see the rest of your life.
Here in Colorado, there is a first degree murder case involving a man who had prior road rage incidents and in the last one he ended up killing two people. The DA has not yet decided whether to go for the death penalty. What happened is that some other drivers who saw him commit prior acts reported them to 911. A log was kept and he was notified of some of these reports. When he was arrested for the deaths, other very upset and credible drivers came forward and volunteered to testify because they had been scared to death by this guy. It looks like he will never come out of prison. I think his name is Jason and he was driving on C 470 if you want to read actual press reports.

I'm not sure, I would say just stay in the center lane and don't worry about how fast you are going or not. Maybe block the speedometer. Practice relaxing in life in general, let cars go in front of you, etc. Practice following a bike for a few miles.
Relax, meditate, slow down

Yea, just think that the other person is a person like you, with a amily who cares about them too,, and try to treat them the way you would like a family member of your to be treated. I now just slow down when someone drives stupid fast or tail gates me. It is accually MORE satisfying to be doing 45 mph with the guy fumming untill they give up and pass.

War-automatic? Kinda high on yourself? Have you ever caught anybody? then what happens when you do? Pee your pants. Tough guy on the internet, dime a dozen.

You need to take deep breaths. Breathe in through your nose, hold it for 5 seconds, and then let it out through your mouth. Try to let out more air than you breathed in.
A Valium would help as well.

Put the big sticker or reminder in your dashboard or radio area saying "NO ROAD RAGE"
