Has anybody else watched people around you during the day and noticed that the majority of people seem very unhappy? Why is this?

My theory is that people are so used to being told what they should do and how they should think that they don't even know themselves. If you took away society and all that it tells them they wouldn't know what to do.

What do you all think?

That's what happened to me. I was so used to authority figures telling me what was right, what was wrong, what to do, and how to do it. Now I regret not living for myself. I'm only 24, but I'm gay and I married a man because "it was the right thing to do" Now I have a child. I still have hope. I'm still young, and I've made the choice to stop doing things just because my family or authority figures say I should.

I think the only way you can notice unhappy people is if you are one. I surround myself with happy people and block out the negativity. Life is too short to be negative.

Yes, I noticed that too. My belief is that many people do not have spiritual guidance in their lives, and as a result, they are miserable. My personal belief is if more people were Christians, they're wouldn't be as many unhappy people as there are today.

Yeah, I agree... I live in Germany. All I see are Germans all day long. They're not the happiest people on Earth.

They only appear to be in whatever emotional state you interpret them to be in.
Much of your interpretation relates to your current emotional state.
The visual cues we all express and see in each other are not rigidly defined, because our own mental tools are full of variation.
What I mean to say, is that you really can't use your own perceptions to judge the status of people's emotions.
It's not really fair to you...or to them!

I forget that I'm happy. plain and simple. When I forget, I frown, but really, I'm a smiling bundle of hateful cheerfulness.
