If you bought this new, then I assume Win XP SP2 is installed. Before using even a new computer, the first thing would be to put a good anti virus program on before getting on the internet. Once that is done, go online and get all the updates for the anti virus program, because if the disc is more than 2 days old, there will be updates. Then get all the updates for Windows. Most people are too impatient to set up a computer properly, and get into trouble.
My experience with brand name computers is that they come packed with a bunch of garbage disguised as useful programs, when all they are is adware and spyware.

Besides that you're using a browser that's still the same after 9 years? uhhh...
Scan your computer for nasties (links are below), defrag and scan your disk for errors (Open up "My Computer", right click on your hard drive, choose "properties", click on the "tools" tab).
Do yourself a huge, huge favour... drop Internet Explorer from use. It's old, big, slow, insecure, out-of-date, lets all kinds of nasties in, inflexible, allows pop-ups and is a huge target for hackers.
Check out Firefox - sleek, faster, smarter, much more up-to-date, easier to use, customizable, blocks pop-ups, doesn't let nearly as much nasty stuff in, will copy over your bookmarks and cookies... It's free and you don't have to do anything to Internet Explorer.

windows has some RAM management problems anyway. with some hardware it really fails to operate correctly. i can not run emule in my computer, every time i run it, system will give me a RAM error. only the emule, and i have installled the same emule, on the same windows cd on a different hardware. so. i recomment you try other browsers, that are much safer, and better. you see in IE you will have 10 windows, that is too heavy and slows your system. but you can use mozilla firefox, or Opera (my favorate browser). they are great in opeation and free of charge.
