Hi there, 'pie', sometimes abbreivated as 'pi', by definition is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. It is always the same number no matter which circle you use to calulate it.

Pi as a digit is usually rounded down simply to 3.14. So when using pie in calculations 3.14 is most often used. Sometimes the fuller number 3.14159 is used, depends on what level of maths really. And just for the sake of fun and for trivial purposes the full number that pie represents is 3.14159265358979323846.

Hope that helps and good luck, ps. i love maths!

Pi is a number that is about 3.14159 but that is not exact. When you divide it out it keeps on going and never comes out even. For most purposes 3.14 or 22/7 is good enough.

To learn pi, or at least for a chuckle factor visit the following site. I get a kick out of it everytime I visit it.

[And, don't let anyone kid you. Aa number a few digits long can never be used to represent the full value of pi. As far as humanity knows, pi is a non-terminating, non-repeating decimal number.]
