It rather depends on what size van you want to drive and what you want to do with it. If its a basic short wheel base model then you are perfectly entitled to drive it at 17 so long as you've passed your test or have clearly displayed L plates on front and rear and a recognised competent driver with you.

However the bigger models, especially when you want to tow something with it commercial like a car trailer or piling rig as some do then you could find yourself entering into the realms of HGV catagory and find yourself needing to 'plate' your transit in order to run it legally as awell as passing your lower class HGV, in which case you would need to be 21.

However, insurance like most vehicles tends to be high for people your age driving any sort of commercial vehicle.

You can drive up to 3.5 tonnes... you cannot drive anything over until you are 21 then you can take the C1 test, which will permit you to drive a 7.5 tonne... but i wouldn't bother with that , just go for your LGV Cat C (Class 2)

Answer is NO .new guidelines brought in by DVLA say a separate test needs to be taken from a car licence to enable you to drive commercial vehicals upto 7.5 tons you could before but not now . check out www.dvla.gov.uk

driving a transit van according to DMV is like driving a schoolbus you can drive it with a guy/gal with valid state ID and driver's license sitting next to you you can't drive at night and not fully loaded with cargo and/or people wait one more year year till you are.18

If you have a licence to drive a car, you can drive a transit or anything under 3.5 tonne.

best to drive it at 30, or whatever the speed limit is, or the police will think you've been drinking. Are you going ramraiding? because it dosen't matter then!

Yes, but they don't wheel-spin that easily and the subwoofer can sound a bit 'boxy'.
