In many middle/high school shop and science glasses, there are cabinets that safety goggles are stored in to disinfect them. The method of disinfecting used is to 'bathe' them in UV rays, killing all of the germs. Would tanning--to any extent whatsoever, even if it's only certain parts of you or just a little bit--disinfect your body if the UV exposure was direct enough? Also, does the killing of this bacteria with UV light relate in any way to the harmful effects it has on OUR bodies? Thanks!

No, tanning does not disinfect you. The cabinets you speak of are much more intense. A close analogy is heat disinfection. You can use your furnace at home to keep warm, or you can use a sterilizer oven at 250 Degrees or higher (F) to sterilize things.

The method you're talking about is a MUCH higher level of UV rays than is used in a tanning bed. If you want to disinfect, take a shower with some antibacterail soap. Tanning is harmful and ups your chance of getting skin cancer and melanoma by like a million times.

The lamps used for disinfecting are usually stronger than those used in tanning beds and the item being disinfected usually stays in the rays longer than you do when tanning.

Yes they are the same type of rays that come from the sun and can cause harm to our bodies

Bathing yourself in UV light will kill germs on the skin. However, it kills them for the same reason that it is bad for you. UV radiation can cause cell mutation and death, including cells in your skin, eyes and mouth. This is why you should not sit out in the sun for too long, as strong sun exposure has been shown to lead to skin cancer and cataracts in the eyes.

The sun is the equivalent of a continuous hydrogen bomb. Your body can tolerate that radiation for only so long before it gets some form of radiation poisoning, such as sunburn. Be careful of your UV exposure and you will live longer and healthier.

No but a well thought out question. North American sunshine appears to have more dangerous UV rays for some reason. Not a good idea to tan for health reasons as already answered

No it doesn't disinfect you. Too much tanning is actually hurting you because of the concentrated UV light, you're much more prone to Melanoma, skin cancer, which is deadly. The survival rate is very low.

I like to watch you while you tan. I see your little naughty bits. Oil all over, your hair wet with sweat. Please turn so I can see your bottom parts better. I love your hips and everything. Now I'm wet.
