First, you have to not be afraid to be in front of a large crowd.
Second, you need to learn how to speak slowly and with expression.
Third, you have to learn to persivere if you don't make the first play that you try out for.
Fourth, it would help to get voice training and dance training because musicals are very common.
as for getting started, check the newspapers to see if there are some community plays in the area that you can try out for or look for information on a drama teacher in the area. You could also look for a voice teacher too. I hope it goes well with you.

Enroll in your high school's drama program. Enroll in their Forensics (competitive speaking and acting) program as well! Talk to both of these teachers about classes outside of the school you could take, as well as information about local community theaters.
Do a google search for acting classes in your area. Many dance studios offer them. Check the yellow pages, too. Ask around to friends that you know have acted in the past and find out how the got into it.
Study, study, study...practice, practice, practice. Read lots and lots of plays! Script analysis is one of the most important parts of being an actor.
Good luck!

This question continues to pop up all the time. First, you need to try out for some school plays. Then, you need to get into community theater. Then, you need to take acting workshops and perfect your craft. Then, you need to make the right connections because in Hollywood or the legitimate theater, it is WHO you know NOT WHAT you know or how good you are. I would start with the first two suggestions I made and go from there. Good luck.

Start by doing stuff locally, for example, school plays or audition at plays at the community center, so you get experience and can write them on your resume. And keep your day job! You need to pay the bills! Don't just rely on acting to pay, because it is really unstable!

If you are in school, join the drama department. If you are not in school, call the theaters in your city and ask them to recommend acting teachers and acting schools for you. Get the permission of your parents before you call, as they have to know what you are up to.

well...go to acting school, get an agent and start auditioning. it helps if you live in NY or LA. but...do you know how many people actually make it big compared to how many people are trying? not many. so it helps to know someone. believe me, i've thought about this forever. i would love to do this too.

you're yet a highschool student... participate in school acts, and when you graduate, you can go to acting schools or you can also major in them in colleges..Or you can find some "extra wanted" in movies or dramas or ads or whatever, and if you do well and keep doing it, then you might get noticed..
