Hi andycapp. I know other people have told you about the "poor mes" but I just wanted to share my female intuition. I don't think this is your problem at all. You are basically a good person, but someone who feels a deep frustration in life. That frustration has made you a little hard on the outside (sometimes you think you are a curmudgeon but sometimes you may worry about the intensity of your anger). But the crusty exterior is not the real story. The real story is a nice guy who cares and just feels that things are getting out of control.

Oh, I guess I'll volunteer to tell you, since I get them from time to time as well. Apparently you are stuck like a broken record about how pitiful your life is, how bad your luck is, how nothing good ever happens for you, how sick you feel, or whatever. Either that or you just have a really crappy friend who ought to be giving you love and support instead of sniping at you. That's always a possibility, too!

It means that you are really down on yourself and you have become sort of (don't take this in the wrong way) self absorbed how "bad" your life is right now.

the "Poor Me's" come from saying things similar to:

"I can't believe that all these bad things keep happening to me. Why did that lady have to pull out in front of me? How come __________________ always happens to me instead of you.... I had such a bad childhood experience when ______________________ happened to me. No one understands because I am the only one who has gone through this........"

Poor me refers to when you are looking for sympathy and all you can think about is how bad your own life is.

The "poor me's" are when you are constantly feeling sorry for yourself, and telling everyone around you about it. I frequently hear it referred to as throwing yourself a pity party, as in, "Mike's constantly throwing himself a pity party, and I am tired of being invited. I think I am going to sit this one out."

Constantly and consistently feeling sorry for yourself - a "poor" outlook, for sure - and a sure way to chase away your friends, leading to another "poor me" complaint!

You must have been feeling sorry for yourself or complaining about something ... "poor me, my car won't start ... poor me, my girlfriend hates me ... " stuff like that. Just their way of saying they don't wanna hear it usually.

You feel sorry for yourself and blame others for your misfortune or bad choices. I used to be a "woe is me", then I grew up, took responsibility for myself and my decisions both good and bad. Cheer up, take responsibility, you'll feel better about yourself if you do. Life is too short to feel sorry for ourselves, we need to live it to the best of our abilities. Only you can make the change from "poor me" to "I can handle this, I take responsibility". Good Luck.

When the glass is always half empty instead of half full. Please take a moment to realize all the 'positive' things in your life. Dwell on what you do have instead mourning what you do not. And Practice random acts of kindness, things tend to come back ten fold.

you like having pity parties insteadof taking life by the horns and riding out whatever storms may come.

you will never get a different result if you keep doing the same thing.
