when a guy has a girlfriend but won't tell the ex's to stop calling, is it because he doesn't want to hurt their feelings even though he won't date them no more, is it because he has no backbone, or is it he wants to keep his options open?

Seems to me that he's doing a bit of both...tyring to keep his options open and maybe he still has a bit of a flame for his ex...but since more than one ex is calling (you wrote ex's), there is a bit of a problem. Tell him how you feel about and see if he does something about it. If not, he probably doesn't respect your feelings about the situation so I'd say drop him.

Could be a combination of things here. How old is this dude? My personal belief? He's keeping his options open,maybe even enjoys the attention.

Probably wants to keep options open. If he truly cares about you he should tell them he has a new girlfriend and they are making things uncomfortable for him. Please understand and stop calling. What's so hard about that?

It could be any one of those, or it could also be that he wants to keep them as just friends. It depends on what their relationship was like, what they have in common, and how bad the breakup was.
