as a medical professional i can tell you that yes, when your tongue is burned the taste buds die. but taste buds are just like any cell in your body, they can die and are replaced with new ones.

speaking of the tongue, here's a cool fact for you nerds out there: the tongue actually has the quickest cell turnover time in your body--meaning it is constantly making new cells to replace the old ones faster than any other part of your body!

I would have to say no. I have burned my tongue and couple different occasions. Once of those occasions I couldn't taste anything for a week. My tongue was completely numb. That was years ago and everything is better now.

No, they suffer damage, just like any other burn, and then they heal. The tongue heals fairly quickly from damage such as that because it has a good blood supply.

yes, but taste buds regenerate. After a few days, you can taste again just fine.

i havent a clue, but you've got me thinking.. like with the rest of the skin - they die, then the tongue probably grows some new ones.

i dont think so. i think they are like skin. they come back. but im not sure
