TV ads still show males as Neanderthals who don't know how to clean a toilet or take care of kids with a cold. Women are still seen as the only ones who need to mop a kitchen floor or do laundry. Isn't it time we insisted that advertising catches up with culture? Most men I know do laundry. Most women can change a tire. Ok?

Advertising is cenered around something called MAN - Money, Authority, Need.

When it comes to shopping women are far better at it then men are. With regard to toilet cleaners, cold remedies, floor cleaners, laundry items etc the men have the money and authority to buy these things but don't recognise the need for them. Women on the other hand have the money, the authority and see the need for them.

If a man goes out and does the weekly shopping he'll came back with some essentials and a load of junk (that's what I do anyway) but if a woman does the shopping she'll come back with all the right things. Until my girlfriend moved in I spent half my time at the local shop buying things I'd forgotten about when at the supermarket.

I think you might feel differently if you were trying to get people to buy your prodcut. If I designed a new mop & I wanted people to buy it, I wouldn't direct my commercial towards men, unless I want to lose money. I'm not saying it's right. I also know men who clean & women who repair. I'm just saying I understand it. I know the women in bikinis holding beers aren't directed at me b/c I don't buy as much beer as my hubby does.

Ive seen role reversal in advertising, not as much as there should be, but some stereotypes will never change. Same goes for race. Maybe in 50 years from now it will.

I think all stereotypes need to stop. Because society only wants to keep ppl thinking one way about races and genders. Even ppl in general. But the media won't change that because it is the voice for society as a whole.

Don't care, women are better at being the emotional center of a family and men are the "mechanics" per se...
Its just the way God made us, or nature if you feel like it, we may be equal, but we are not interchangable... don't confuse the two.

Yes, I think it IS time to stop with the gender stereotypes. Also with the racial stereotypes, the nationality stereotypes, the religious stereotypes, and any other stereotype. They just don't apply anymore!

I do think so. And it's not like OUR ONLY JOB is to clean the house... most of us have to go to work, get an education, or watch the kids, then clean the house??? wtf.
