There's at least 1,000 languages spoken. I say there are a lot more. India alone have couple hundred. How they were evolved? Good question, but that's an intense study of demographics, colonialism, conquest, and linguistics

well not possible to count I think, since even in a small isolated pacific island, there can be 500 languages
